We stayed over a weekend in the Mews self catering as a family of 3. My mother and father also stayed b&b in a refurbished bedroom. Both their room and the Mews were very clean, modern and comfy. We had a great visit (I was there for the Evans Ride-it cycling event) and the mix of self catering and b&b was ideal! Everyone was very welcoming and the food/service was equally as good. The location is perfect for exploring the lakes and we would definitely return.
We came for an evening meal with our parents and grown up childred (8 of us in all), after hearing so much about the pub, food and friendly service. Our visit did not dissapoint. The Wilsons has a fabulous atmosphere, which typifies the friendly nature of Lake District Folk. The food was amazing and all 8 meals were excellent. In particular, the ‘Classis burger’ was a feast of culinary engineering, which was to die for! The pub was very busy but despite this, we were welcomed and received fast and efficient service from the friendly staff. I would thoroughly recommend a visit. Definitely not one to miss if you’re in the area. Thanks to everyone who made this such a special evening.
We popped in for a late lunch and we were delighted with our decision. Easily the best ‘pub grub’ that we have eaten in years and at amazing prices too. Lovely ladies working the bar and restaurant with good cheer and friendly faces. We’ll be back for sure next time when we return to Coniston.
My wife and I had dinner at the Wilson’s Arms, the food was very good the servings plentiful, and I can recommend it unconditionally. Even though it was busy the service was friendly, efficient and of a very good standard. Will visit again.
Stayed here for one night in The Mews which comprised of a double room, a single room a pull out bed sofa, kitchen which was equiped with all of the basics. We were 2 adults 2 kids age 9 and 14 and a dog. Accomodation was very clean and just right for what we needed. they even had a dog bed. The pub itself has a small bar, very comfortable rustic bar area serving heavenly real ales and a slightly “posher” but less atmospheric restuarant. Staff were all very smiley and friendly and nothing was too much trouble at all. The food, all very traditional English grub, was very very good indeed. This is why I imagine the place is packed most nights, as it was on a Tuesday when we stayed. Look online and you can see the menu for yourself. The eggs benedict which is one of the breakfast options is delicious and perfectly cooked. Fresh baked bread from a local bakery is also to die for. I have been in few places that get it absolutely right, they even offer boiled egg and soldiers on the breakfast menu for heavans sake. This place has nailed it for atmosphere, the right amount of friendliness from staff, comfortable cheerfull surroundings and mouth watering food. Don’t hesitate to go! Oh did I mention the surrounding beauty of the Lakes!
We stopped off for a pub lunch after visiting Lakeland Land Rover down the road. The food was great, good choice and reasonable priced.
The pub is an old fashioned styled coaching inn bristling with oak beams and real fires, so we were also pleasantly suprised by the excellent free wifi, and free mobile phone charging (just because there is no mobile coverage on most systems around there is irrelevant).
My wife was also impressed with the ladies bathroom which apparently featured not only high tech designer hand washing and drying but hair driers and straighteners.
Absolutely wonderful stay. Took our beloved pooch with us for 2 nights as my birthday treat. Previously we have found when staying in hotels/accommodation that accept dogs they have scrimped on the room and it can be a bit shabby but not the Wilson’s Arms, it was beautiful!
The food was amazing too. We stayed on the mid week deal however we wouldn’t have wanted to eat elsewhere as the food was to die for, washed down with a lovely strawberry lager.
From what I can gather the staff were extremely helpful when organising flowers and champagne in the room, a lovely surprise too. Overall, can’t wait to return!
We went for a meal here after a day on the fells trials ridding, the food was really good espeacially the yorkshire pudding! Gemma took me into Coniston which was out of the way and a real good turn, (Thanks Gemma).
Thanks to all for a lovely evening and if you are in the area do give it a try, its a true Cumbrian welcome!
My husband and I recently revisted the Wilson Arms after a twenty year gap. We had previously stayed before we had our family. I was delighted to hear that the it is still run by the same family. We had a delicious evening meal, the service was second to none, and the food was exemplary. I would highly recommend this restaurant for families and couples alike. I am looking forward to visiting again very soon, and it won’t take me another twenty years.
