The Wilsons News

We have had a fantastic, busy weekend with the Pub and Deli.  All the new stock has arrived and we have been busy pricing, stocking and organising it all so finally we get to open the doors of the Torver Deli!

We have also been looking after a large group of men, staying up at Tranneth, making sure that they were all well fed and watered throughout their weekend.  Kirsty and Kieran put out a splendid Buffet for them with food ranging from Beef Curry to local Smoked Cold Meats and Cheeses, Breads and a home made giant Pork Pie.

So now we look forward to what the week ahead holds for us and to welcoming everyone to the Torver Deli, and invite you to come and enjoy the new patio area outside the pub with our very own and unique Wishing Well (Created using the original well dating from around 1838!)

News and Reviews of The Wilsons

We are looking forward to a busy weekend ahead of us with the Coniston 14 (a local run organised by a small committee from the Village).  The Coniston 14 Road Race was established in 1982 and is organised each year by a small, enthusiastic committee supported by approx 100 local volunteers on the day.  Over £20,000 is raised each year and donated to several charities in the area.  Lets hope the snow keeps away for the Runners.  We wish them all the best and Good Luck!

We have also had some fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor lately, so we thought  we would put them here to share with all our readers.  Well done to the Team who work so hard and make all our guests and visitors so welcome with good food.

Just spent 2 nights there , it was better than we expected, good log fire to sit up to, the best of staff, excellent home grown food & good menu, very clean all round & modern bedrooms fully heated, the owner, Fran could not have been more helpful, we will go there again in the near future.

“Bargain Break !!”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 13 March 2013
Stayed at the Wilsons Arms for a two night mid-week break, 11/12 March 2013. All staff were very friendly from our arrival right through to our departure, and nothing was too much trouble (even our dog was made to feel welcome). Recently refurbished room was very clean and modern. The 3 course meal that came with the deal on the first night was extremely good, with really generous portions (so generous, that neither of us managed a pudding, so settled for coffee instead!). Although currently going through a refurbishment, there was no disruption to our visit whatsoever. We are intrigued to see the end result of the red phone box ‘fish tank’, and the glass covered ‘well’ that the builders were working on while we were there (hopefully Fran can get the pictures onto the website when they are finished, so that we can see the end result?).

Please pass on our thanks to the team for making our stay so enjoyable

A New Locally Crafted Bitter Arrives In The Wilsons Cellar.

As well as our normal range of fantastic, local ales, such as Stringers (from Ulverston Brewery), this week at the Wilsons we are trying a new beer from Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery.  The Radical is a 4.2% rich, hoppy and malty Bitter – perfect with our line caught Whole Trout, oven baked and served with new potatoes and salad.

The Radical has arrived in the cellar and has begun its “settling” process, ready to be served on Wednesday. The barrels are left undisturbed for a minimum of 24 hours to let the sediment settle and to allow the perfect, clear pint to be served.

Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery Co Ltd was established February 2009 by four “local lads”.  A father and son team, who already run a local freehouse in Kirkby Lonsdale, decided to join forces with Roger and Alan, another couple of “local lads”.  All of whom share a passion for “real ale” and a keen interest in establishing a local brewery.  After many months of planning and preparation the brewery was finally installed and is situated at the Old Station Yard, Kirkby Lonsdale.

”Lakeland gem!”

Superb food, beers and wine. Hardworking staff on the ball. A real cosy pub atmosphere in a great location for any outdoor pursuits . Has charm and character that larger places lack. Nice to see the wine list sensibly priced unlike most establishments. We will return!
