Well, it is safe to say Summer is here! The temperatures have been soaring and we have been kept busy with visitors and guests alike. Andrew has been keeping the bar well stocked to help quench the thirst of our weary travelers, while Kirsty and her team have been cooking up a storm, ensuring everyone gets a good plateful of Wilson’s Food and keeping the Torver Deli stocked up.
With the weather being so kind to us the back field is in more use than ever. Annie and her piglets have settled down well and are enjoying their new home. The Pygmy goat and her Kid (named Jack) have arrived to join Annie and the Herdwick Lambs. The bouncy castle is up and the new tables and benches have been assembled. So we look forward to the start of the summer holidays and welcoming you all here: whether its for a plate of Wilsons food, a cold drink, or a room for the night we will be ready and happy to see you.
We are looking forward to a busy weekend ahead of us with the Coniston 14 (a local run organised by a small committee from the Village). The Coniston 14 Road Race was established in 1982 and is organised each year by a small, enthusiastic committee supported by approx 100 local volunteers on the day. Over £20,000 is raised each year and donated to several charities in the area. Lets hope the snow keeps away for the Runners. We wish them all the best and Good Luck!
We have also had some fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor lately, so we thought we would put them here to share with all our readers. Well done to the Team who work so hard and make all our guests and visitors so welcome with good food.
Just spent 2 nights there , it was better than we expected, good log fire to sit up to, the best of staff, excellent home grown food & good menu, very clean all round & modern bedrooms fully heated, the owner, Fran could not have been more helpful, we will go there again in the near future.
Stayed at the Wilsons Arms for a two night mid-week break, 11/12 March 2013. All staff were very friendly from our arrival right through to our departure, and nothing was too much trouble (even our dog was made to feel welcome). Recently refurbished room was very clean and modern. The 3 course meal that came with the deal on the first night was extremely good, with really generous portions (so generous, that neither of us managed a pudding, so settled for coffee instead!). Although currently going through a refurbishment, there was no disruption to our visit whatsoever. We are intrigued to see the end result of the red phone box ‘fish tank’, and the glass covered ‘well’ that the builders were working on while we were there (hopefully Fran can get the pictures onto the website when they are finished, so that we can see the end result?).
Please pass on our thanks to the team for making our stay so enjoyable
We have, without doubt , had an industrious couple of weeks at the Wilsons. To begin with, some of our Herdwick Lambs have been sent to Aireys Abattoir and Farm Shop to be prepared. The meat has been hanging for two weeks and is now in the pub and on the Menu! (Hanging the meat for a period of time helps to improve and enhance its flavour). Our Chefs are preparing the Lamb in various ways to compliment all the different cuts. We are very proud to be serving our own products and having them enjoyed so much.
The work on the Deli is also coming along smoothly and we are very excited to get it finished and open. The shelves have been built, the pizza oven is fitted, the doors are in place, the floor has been laid, the Butchers block has arrived, the wood burner is on the way and we are finalizing the last minute touches, signs and lists. The team involved in the building work has done a fantastic job and we are looking forward to seeing the end result.
Only stopped for a drink and was amazed by how nice it was! Really cute and the staff are so friendly, we were served by a girl called Kelly, she was extremely friendly and made the best hot chocolate ever! The out door heaters outside are lovely. There is a Wii for the kids to play on, free WiFi computers, games and a place to charge up your phone, all for free! I would advise anyone to go! Amazing!
