My partner and I were staying in a holiday cottage nearby with our dog and popped in one evening for food as the menu and pricing was more appealing to the other local pubs. We were not disappointed. The food and customer service was excellent as were the drinks, the fire was burning, the atmosphere was brilliant and our dog was welcome with water bowls provided. They also seem to serve both quality and quantity in the same dish, we were stuffed! We booked a table for the end of the week to take my parents and even though it was a packed Friday night the quality didn’t suffer a bit. The facilities are clean and even attractive plus there was a hair dryer and straighteners in the ladies for those coming in from a walk maybe. Honestly not a single fault to pick at.
We stayed just around the corner from the Wilson Arms during a short cycling holiday. As soon as we walked in we were made to feel right at home. The lively and friendly staff were great fun. We loved the extra touches, glasses from the fridge, guest photos on the wall and a roaring fire! We also found the wine selection excellent at reasonable prices.
We ended up having breakfast and dinner here on a rainy Sunday and were not disappointed. No mushrooms at breakfast but the waitress knocked off the OJ before we had even noticed 🙂
The burger stack lives up to its billing and is of epic proportions. There a loads of pubs in the Lakes but we will always be fond of this one now.
Thank you Wilson Arms!
We stayed over a weekend in the Mews self catering as a family of 3. My mother and father also stayed b&b in a refurbished bedroom. Both their room and the Mews were very clean, modern and comfy. We had a great visit (I was there for the Evans Ride-it cycling event) and the mix of self catering and b&b was ideal! Everyone was very welcoming and the food/service was equally as good. The location is perfect for exploring the lakes and we would definitely return.
We would like to say a really big Thank you to all the residents (and visitors of Torver) who ‘pulled’ together and created a fantastic, memorable and enjoyable Diamond Jubilee.
We all managed to raise £350.00 for North West Air Ambulance plus another £500 from the Tug of War Prize money that was divided between charities including Cancer Research and the MS Society.
Let’s Hope the next one is as much Fun!
Best Wishes From all at The Wilson’s and The Church House

The staff are very friendly and obliging nothing is too much trouble. the rooms are all being upgraded and top grade the food is faultless something for everyone. the beer is all local and superbly kept bluebird xb is a must try. the breakfast is excellent and fills you up for the day cannot recommend enough
Beautifully appointed, Riverside Cottage is a rare gem set in breathtaking surroundings overlooking Torver Beck, with its own pedestrian bridge leading to a private jetty and beach. The detached house, gardens and surroundings are an absolute delight and provide a heady mix of luxury and beauty.
All three bedrooms have super king-size beds, two of which can be cleverly converted into two single beds on request, and with two en-suites and a house bathroom, queues are a thing of the past! Outside there is a choice of peaceful patios, including a charming covered seating area adorned with fairy lights.
What is really magical about Riverside Cottage is it has its very own pedestrian bridge which crosses Torver Beck to an enormous expanse of green leading to Coniston Water. You can while away the hours in the summer house, or dangle your feet over the water on the private jetty.
In such stunning surroundings, it is very easy to see how our Lakeland poets were so inspired! Just over a mile away is a footpath leading to The Old Man of Coniston which at 2635 feet is not quite a Munro, but deserves its place in the great Cumbrian fells.
On a fine day the views from the top are so intoxicating they should be experienced by everyone. Arthur Ransome based his book ‘Swallows and Amazons’ on Coniston Water, and it is fun trying to discover the locations featured in the book. There is boat hire available, as well as sailing courses and the steam yacht Gondola, which offers an opulent sail with a difference.
Riverside Cottage is addictive and one visit will not be enough.
