My partner and I were staying in a holiday cottage nearby with our dog and popped in one evening for food as the menu and pricing was more appealing to the other local pubs. We were not disappointed. The food and customer service was excellent as were the drinks, the fire was burning, the atmosphere was brilliant and our dog was welcome with water bowls provided. They also seem to serve both quality and quantity in the same dish, we were stuffed! We booked a table for the end of the week to take my parents and even though it was a packed Friday night the quality didn’t suffer a bit. The facilities are clean and even attractive plus there was a hair dryer and straighteners in the ladies for those coming in from a walk maybe. Honestly not a single fault to pick at.
Its a shame I didn’t spot this place to stay on the internet when I was looking, looks really nice place to stay. The pub was recommended to me by a local in Coniston village near where I was staying, so I headed over there for a bite to eat and was welcomed by very friendly staff and had some very nice food. Would like to thank Kathy from behind the bar for making me feel at home shame I couldn’t connect to the WiFi but on a second visit the next night all was well thanks again look forward to see you next year when the sun is out 🙂
You know how it is, getting hungrier, you push on but the winding miles pass with few signs of habitation let alone a welcoming pub. That’s how it was yesterday and I thought we’d settle for a rubbery grumpy dish wherever and then by chance we came to The Wilson Arms. All our thoughts were reversed, a cheery welcome, good comfy seats in front of the fire with a pile of papers and books, a good choice of ales, lagers, wines and indeed hot drinks, the biggest best Sunday roast with punchy sauces, and a great price. I want to go back with a dog next time and a bigger appetite so I can taste more of the superb food!
Louise and I planned a couple of days in the Lakes but required a dog friendly establishment preferably a pub with restaurant and accommodation We looked at lots of places online and noticed The Wilsons offered a good value two night midweek break. I rang, spoke to Gemma, booked, paid deposit and received conformation within minutes, all very easy.
On arrival we loved the look and feel of the place. We were greeted in a lovely friendly manner which was extended to our border collie Logan.
We stayed in a lovely room, (no.3) very comfortable and a nice dog bed for Logan included.
We ate our evening meals and breakfasts in the bar area so Logan could accompany us. It was very pleasant, the food was excellent quality, well cooked and good value.
All the staff were lovely and we spent one early evening in the bar in the company of Gemma and her husband and lovely little boy for a couple of hours which was very pleasant.
I have to say we had a great time and were made to feel very much at ease and relaxed, exactly what we needed.
We hope to make a return visit next year.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
We stayed at The Wilsons for the VMCC weekend in September, as we have done for a long time. We are glad that it is back in the safe hands of the Mayvers family. Matthew and Faye are doing a great job with the refurbishment, and have lots of good ideas. The food was as good as ever, though bad news for the bathroom scales on our return home! We were in Room 1, which has yet to be refurbished, we look forward to the transformation next time we go. We were sorry to miss Fran, she must have seen that we were due to arrive and had run away to Spain for a holiday. This is a great place and it would be hard to pick fault with it!
Stayed here for one night in The Mews which comprised of a double room, a single room a pull out bed sofa, kitchen which was equiped with all of the basics. We were 2 adults 2 kids age 9 and 14 and a dog. Accomodation was very clean and just right for what we needed. they even had a dog bed. The pub itself has a small bar, very comfortable rustic bar area serving heavenly real ales and a slightly “posher” but less atmospheric restuarant. Staff were all very smiley and friendly and nothing was too much trouble at all. The food, all very traditional English grub, was very very good indeed. This is why I imagine the place is packed most nights, as it was on a Tuesday when we stayed. Look online and you can see the menu for yourself. The eggs benedict which is one of the breakfast options is delicious and perfectly cooked. Fresh baked bread from a local bakery is also to die for. I have been in few places that get it absolutely right, they even offer boiled egg and soldiers on the breakfast menu for heavans sake. This place has nailed it for atmosphere, the right amount of friendliness from staff, comfortable cheerfull surroundings and mouth watering food. Don’t hesitate to go! Oh did I mention the surrounding beauty of the Lakes!
Absolutely wonderful stay. Took our beloved pooch with us for 2 nights as my birthday treat. Previously we have found when staying in hotels/accommodation that accept dogs they have scrimped on the room and it can be a bit shabby but not the Wilson’s Arms, it was beautiful!
The food was amazing too. We stayed on the mid week deal however we wouldn’t have wanted to eat elsewhere as the food was to die for, washed down with a lovely strawberry lager.
From what I can gather the staff were extremely helpful when organising flowers and champagne in the room, a lovely surprise too. Overall, can’t wait to return!
It was easy to find. The pub is very cosy, has a real fire and a friendly, homely atmosphere. Our room was a cosy ensuite attic room with a flat screen tv and tea and coffee making facilities. Its perfect for walking, hiking and mountain biking. We also enjoyed meeting your very friendly dogs too
Called in while on a mountain bike tour for tea and scones, no problem that we were rather muddy. Tea and scones (with fresh cream and home made jam) were great as was the homely fire. Had a chat with the lanlord who is a new owner and he is in the process of setting up a mountain bike taxi service… sounds good.
3 of us stayed here on 12/11/2011 following a days walking – our hotel arrangements had gone pear shaped but we were saved by the Wilsons Arms who let us stay at short notice. The rooms and bar meals were good value and breakfast excellent. Thanks everyone see you again soon.
